The Nation Needs Stronger Men—Are You Doing Your Part?

Last night I had a dream that I was at York Barbell
in the Summer of 1955 talking about training and
life with Bob Hoffman, the founder of York Barbell.

We chatted outside at a picnic table near where
The York Strength and Health Exhibitions were held.

John Grimek and John Terpak were setting up various barbells
and Mr. Hoffman told me to hold on to this letter
that was a intro for a Strength and Health Magazine.

Mr. Hoffman said to me.....

Zach, hold on to this envelope and open it when the time
is right. Make sure you share it with others. This is not
meant to be a secret.

Our Nation needs Stronger Men!

Bob shook my hand and disappeared into
thin air as he walked away......

It was a dream but it felt so real.... as if it was REAL!?

Here is what was in the typed letter:

From the Desk of Bob Hoffman, York Barbell Co.
“The Strongest Name in Strength.”

My good friends in Strength,

As I sit here in the bustling heart of York, Pennsylvania—amid clanging barbells and the sweat of determined men—I am reminded once again of a simple truth:

The strongest nations are built upon strong men.

And strong men are not born, they are made.
Through hard work. Through clean living. Through iron-willed discipline.

You needn't be a champion weightlifter to build a strong body and an even stronger character. A mere 30 to 60 minutes a day spent in earnest, progressive training—combined with clean, wholesome eating—will build more real manhood than all the modern gadgets and nonsense combined.

Strength Tip of the Month:

Stick to the basics.

The greatest lifters in the world, including our very own John Grimek, built their physiques on presses, squats, cleans, curls, and good, honest hard work. No fads, no fluff—just barbell work, bodyweight drills, and effort.

If your training feels scattered, simplify. Train 3 days a week. Focus on full-body effort. Leave the gym knowing you gave it your all.

Health and Nutrition Wisdom:

You can't build strength on a foundation of sugar and slop.

Eat like a man who wants to conquer life.

  • Start the day with a few eggs, whole milk, and oatmeal.
  • Enjoy red meats, liver, fresh vegetables, and plenty of water.
  • Take cod liver oil, especially in the colder months.
  • And above all: eat enough to grow!
Don’t fear real food.
Fear weakness.
Fear softness of body and mind.
But never fear the barbell.

We York men have proven this for decades.

Our champions weren’t born with golden genes. They were built in dingy gyms, in basements and barns, under the calloused hands of men with grit in their souls.

So I ask you, man-to-man:

Are you doing all you can to build yourself into the man you were meant to be?

Not just for your own sake—but for your family, your community, and this great country?

If you need a starting point—or a return to what’s real—I have just the thing for you.

Good morning, Gladiator. I have a great reminder for you today..... Yesterday evening I went to my local high schooland got to watch some Summer Wrestling. It's quite simple actually, yet the "experts" keep denying these truths. The majority of wrestlers who were jacked and strong were the wrestlers who were winning. Yep. In a world where the "gooroos" are talking like everyone is "too strong" and how strength is making them slower, I saw the opposite. The wrestlers who were jacked and strong...

Good morning, fellow Gladiator. I hope you had a GREAT weekend and you are ready to destroy everything that stands in your way. All weekend I was in Staten Island for Baseball and I was remembering when Staten Island was known for having a few hardcore gyms. Those days are gone. Today, the "hardcore" are mostly in their own garage and basement gyms. Commercial Gyms are an extension of influencers and too many peopleworking their thumbs while laying on benches and machines as if it was their...
