Good morning, IRON Gladiator - I am fired up today after a great training session yesterday with I have some "advices" for you and lessons learned from There was a time when men didn’t need a pre workout, "bio hacking" I don't ever recall taking a pre workout...... I believe you should Nutrition was simple - and, NOT loaded with chemicals, poison There was steak and eggs. Milk back then was simply MILK. Today, we must find RAW Milk..... Good ol' MILK and 20 rep squats - and I gotta say, teen athletes today sure could use 20 rep squats today! Build some GUTS. Back then there were Flimsy benches where world records were broken and pull ups were done off of steel pipes rigged between All that was needed was a barbell. If you were lucky, you had a few globe dumbbells. A basement gym was a gathering place for teenagers Maybe a good ol' YORK Iso Rack was in your house somewhere. A simple training plan from a one page poster in Strength and Health And of course.... the discipline to keep showing up. It's wild that today, That was the spirit of the Silver Era of strength training… Before I was even born. The WORK was the ticket. 3 full body strength sessions and And of course, if there was one place that stood at the center of it all, Before fitness became entertainment… Before “functional training” became a buzzword… Before every workout had to be filmed and posted… There were men training for REAL strength. Guys like John Grimek, Tommy Kono, Steve Stanko, and the hardnosed lifters who built power, muscle, grit, and character under IRON that had no mercy - and these men chased the WORK. York wasn’t just a gym. It was a proving ground. And what made that era so powerful wasn’t just the physiques… It was the mindset: 1) They trained the basics… over and over again. There was no way around it - basics all the way. No circus workouts like today. The lifters from York lived on the basics, and so they hammered:
2) The Silver Era respected WORK more than “perfect programming.”A lot of people today are waiting for the perfect plan. The York lifters? They’d laugh at that. The Tren Twins would never survive They knew that consistency beats complexity. A simple program done with effort, week after week, will bury an “optimized” program done half-heartedly. 3) They trained with PRIDEBack then, training wasn’t just about looking good at the beach. It was about self pride, inspiring the country through STRENGTH and Becoming more useful. That’s what IRON did for men. And it still does. That’s exactly why I wrote this blog post on Silver Era Training and the York Barbell mindset — because most people today don’t need more information… ==> https://zacheven-esh.com/4-silver-era-tips-for-men-over-40/ Men today need to get reconnected to what actually works. If you’ve been feeling stale, beat up, unmotivated, or stuck in the same routine… This will light a fire under you. ==> Read it HERE See you in the squat rack. Back in 2009, I recall taking a "sick day" from teaching when my buddy Joe Kenn reached out to bring his staff to trainat The Underground. Louisville was in town for a Football game vs Rutgers and The Underground was 10 minutes away. We had a great day and it was amazing to have a high level D1 staff to not only train, but to LEARN. "House Rules" was that his staff must train with the Coach. There was no option to "Do our own program". Why? How do you learn if you refuse to try something new?...
