Modern Man needs Old School Strength

Yesterday I did a great webinar with my buddy, Funk Roberts.

We chatted about being Dad STRONG and most of all,
Living Dad STRONG.

We spoke old school strength, early days of FUNK and his son
going to Thailand to train old school.

They would train MEAN and eat CLEAN.

We both got fired up!

The webinar / interview will be on The Men Over 40
Health Summit
(Details HERE).

========

Funk was asking me about starting a home gym for busy Dads
and why it's important. It took me back to buying gym equipment
from newspaper classified ads.

There were NO photos and my first trip was to a storage
facility in Newark, NJ 😨

I put money in my pocket, some in my sock and some
in my underwear - just in case sh-t wet sideways :)

My first pick up was a pair of 50 and 100 lb dumbbells.

Men today don’t need more information

Don't need more equipment...

Men today need less noise and more IRON.

Back in the Silver Era, men didn’t overcomplicate training.

They weren’t bouncing from program to program like today
people leave the gym for a new coach every 6 months....

Where is the Commitment!!??

They weren’t chasing “biohacks”…

Jeez - try Steak, Eggs, Chicken, Rice and Fruit

And they sure as hell weren’t doing circus workouts with cables and
reading the newspaper in between sets, the equivalent of checking
your phone after each set.

They trained with Purpose, Pride and Passion.

John Grimek was a bodybuilder and Olympian lifting for York Barbell.
He looked powerful because he was powerful.

Bill Pearl wasn’t just a bodybuilder.
He could tear a damn license plate in half.

Steve Reeves didn’t look like Hercules because of machines and supplements.

Will creatine dehydrate me and ruin my kidneys?

Steve Reeves looked like he was carved from stone because he trained his body the way men used to train:

Full body. Basic lifts. Hard work.

This is what I do myself and how we train adults and athletes
with kick a** results.

Squat.
Press.
Pull.
Carry.
Repeat.

And they didn’t need a PhD in nutrition, either. Today, the "experts"
try to impress you with fancy words.

How about RESULTS!?

Silver Era lifters ate like men.... like GLADIATORS.
Steak. Eggs. Potatoes. Milk.
Simple food. Real food. Enough protein. Enough calories. Done.

And here’s the part nobody talks about enough…

This kind of training wasn’t just for the body. It was for the mind.

IRON THERAPY.

Today, most men are mentally smoked.

Too much stress.
Too much sitting.
Too much screen time.
Too much talking and not enough doing the damn thing.

You need 30 – 40 minutes, 3 days a week, of simple, full body
strength training.

That’s enough to build muscle.
That’s enough to get leaner.
That’s enough to feel like yourself again.

And maybe most importantly…

That’s enough to remind you that you’re still dangerous.

Not angry.
Not reckless.
Just capable.

Strong hands.
Strong back.
Strong mind.
Strong example.

That’s what your kids need to see.
That’s what your wife deserves to live with.
That’s what you need to become again.

If you’ve been feeling run down, beat up, stressed, or just disconnected from who you used to be…

Start simple.

Lift.
Eat real food.
Get outside.
Do hard sh-t

That old school way still works. Always has, always will.

IRON Gladiator - Good Morning..... Now that I am 50, I can really look back and see how WRONG the men were who were telling me how much my life would change once I was married, had kid, "got older" ...... And these were guys in their 30s. Here I am, age 50, feeling STRONG. Here's some quick, hard hitting tips to get you on track to building size, strength, burning fat and feeling STRONGboth physically and mentally. In no particular order: 1) Meal Prep - I usually marinate a lot of chicken and...

Back in 2009, I recall taking a "sick day" from teaching when my buddy Joe Kenn reached out to bring his staff to trainat The Underground. Louisville was in town for a Football game vs Rutgers and The Underground was 10 minutes away. We had a great day and it was amazing to have a high level D1 staff to not only train, but to LEARN. "House Rules" was that his staff must train with the Coach. There was no option to "Do our own program". Why? How do you learn if you refuse to try something new?...

Good morning, IRON Gladiator - I am fired up today after a great training session yesterday with some friends and a GREAT morning squat session this morning. I have some "advices" for you and lessons learned frombefore the iPhone and before I was even born. There was a time when men didn’t need a pre workout, "bio hacking"or any other magic tricks. I don't ever recall taking a pre workout...... I believe you should summon your energy from within. Whatever it takes; mind, body, spirit - it is...
